Bug Wars IX –
A Quest For Peace
For too long our heroine has
been complacent. After her many
years of bug wars, she felt she had
earned the right to enjoy a war-free
life, start a family, and live within a
bugless galaxy. While the bugs
continued their quests nearby,
they seemed to respect the
galaxy occupied by our
heroine . . .
until one day . . .
Our Cast:
Heroine – Traci
Hero – Mike
Bug Eradicator – Buddy the Cat
A3YO – Alerting 3 Year Old
1FLB – 1 [year old] Fascinated Little Boy
It was easy to see how it could happen. The messy universe surrounding the galaxy of our heroin was uninhabited and unkempt. The bugs easily had free reign over that area and as long as they stayed out of the Heroine’s galaxy, she could live with that. There were small, occasional battles fought within her galaxy, but they were few and far between and seemed to only involve small, rogue armies. Overall our heroine and hero lived at peace, ruling over their modest galaxy with their new beloved A3YO and 1FLB.
The latest war was so well planned by the enemy that it caught our heroine off guard. A small band of bugs must have snuck into the galaxy and re-programmed the Bug Eradicator – our Heroine’s trusted alert and destroy system for these last 10 years. No longer was he seeking out enemy armies and alerting their presence. No longer would he devour the enemy or pummel it into submission. Somehow, the enemy reprogrammed the eradicator so his only mission was to find already dead enemies and destroy the evidence of their presence by ingesting them. Living enemies were largely ignored.
Luckily, A3YO and 1FLB were happy to fill part of the gap left by the Eradicator’s faulty programming and happily took over the role as alerting systems. The A3YO did exactly this one evening when our heroine walked into the room.
“Mama [A3YO’s term of endearment for our heroine] . . . I see bugs!”
These dreaded words always bring our heroine into immediate action. “Show me”, she answered quickly.
The offending attackers were spotted quickly upon moving the drapes. There on the windowsill were dozens of tiny attackers, slipping quickly in and out of every little crack they could find. Although disgusted and frustrated by the attack, our heroine assumed it was another small rogue army. She sent our hero out casually to spray killing liquid around the windows, base of the house, and plants outside, figuring that would be enough to put an end to the small attack.
She was wrong. The small band had been replaced with an even larger band of bugs by morning. And not only was the small foot army there, this time they brought along flying, wood eating friends. Both enemies fought our heroine side by side as she smashed and squashed them until there were none to be found.
But still they returned. First to A3YO & 1FLB’s room. Then the hallway. Then the bathroom. Then to the living room and kitchen. They infiltrated until their small army units were in every room of the house. No area was safe. Attacks were always in small bands of 10-20. Constantly changing their attacks. A changing table, a laundry bin, a bath scrub, a loofah sponge. They tried every little thing they could find. When those were moved, they hunted down the galaxy medical stash in an effort to weaken the heroes from within: a bottle of cough medicine, Tylenol, toothpaste and then the toothbrushes. Each time the attacked item was washed and removed to a safe location.
But still they came.
Finally . . . It was time for WAR. A3YO & 1FLB were safely stored for the night with just enough daylight to take the battle to the outer perimeter of the galaxy. The bugs would die by liquid poison death. The entire border of the galaxy was doused with the spray by our hero. Windows were soaked from top to bottom. The foundation of the galaxy soaked from 2 feet up the wall to two feet away from the base. This would be the end. The armies would no longer infiltrate the galaxy. Only those left inside would remain to be killed. The plan seemed to work for about a day. Fewer and fewer of the bugs were found inside.
But then came Wednesday. Our heroine entered the room. A3YO and 1FLB were unusually silent. Somehow, our heroine knew and began searching right away. A few soldiers were found here and there. The Eradicator entered the room to roll in their remains as our heroine smashed them and wiped them on the carpet for later disposal. And then suddenly she saw it.

This was no small invasion. This was hundreds and hundreds of soldiers moving across the room as a single organized unit. They appeared to come from nowhere and go to nowhere. As A3YO and 1FLB watched in awe, our heroine lost her mind and let loose a long diatribe on the enemy, which they managed to completely ignore. The powerful sucking machine was brought in to clear them all away in order to buy time to form a new attack and maybe figure out their entry point, but within seconds of having the enemies cleared, there were hundreds to take their place. And it was at this time their intentions were clear – they were moving. Either in or out – no way to know for sure. But they came with their little white replacement soldiers and everything – their intentions to move were clear.

“Wonderful!” thought our heroine. “With a feast available the soldiers will no longer have need to roam the galaxy. They will gather in one place and stay there except to return from where they came.
But the enemy continued to come out of hiding. Floor to ceiling soldiers. They entered from everywhere. They came through windowsills, through outlets, through light switches, through the ceiling vents, and in various places across the floorboards. They came in droves. They brought their children to drink from the rich pools of sugary Terro nectar.

A Trojan horse was set. Would it work? Will this latest attempt kill the colony attempting to invade our heroes’ galaxy? Will our heroine find peace? Did I mention that I'm "nesting" right now and this is NOT being handled well by me emotionally? Do YOU have any ideas? Anything???? To Be Continued . . .
